What do we commemorate?
In 2009, United Nations (UN) declared April 22nd as the International Mother Earth Day, to recognize the importance of human involvement in the preservation of flora and fauna, to have a balance between economic needs and the importance of caring for our planet.

·      Take care of the piece of land that belongs to you; reforest; clean a park, a forest or a beach

  World Bee Day, May 20th
Commitment to bees: for agricultural production respectful of pollinators

  What do we commemorate?
Climate change is severely impacting the well-being of insects, mainly bees and bumblebees, as they are failing to adapt to the planet's high temperatures. On World Bee Day, we recognize and reflect on the importance of bees in our life, who provides us with honey, wax, propolis, pollen and royal jelly, as well as they pollinate crops to maintain ecosystems and alert us about environmental risks.

·      Consume products grown by local farmers
·      Avoid using insecticides or pesticides in your daily life
·      If you find a bee in your home, open the window, it will naturally find its ecosystem

No plastic pollution

  What do we commemorate?
Every year more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide. It is believed that half of this amount is intended for the manufacturing of single-use products and less than 10% is recycled. Where does this waste end up? On beaches, lakes, rivers and seas, while micro plastics invade our food, water and even air. At the World Environment Day, we actively seek to raise awareness among society about the importance of taking care of our planet.

In a world increasingly aware of the importance of preserving our natural environment, we have taken significant steps towards reducing plastics at Park Royal Hotels & Resorts, aligning with the UN-backed Global Tourism and Plastics Initiative (GTPI).

In the room
We replaced our single-use plastic amenities (gel, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer) with dispensers. Our bath products are sustainable and of natural origin, made with Melipona bee honey, from the Mayan community, Muuch Kaab in the state of Quintana Roo.

We have changed laundry bags for biodegradable bags. We have also installed water fountains and reusable thermoses, so now our guests will find two thermoses per room, which they can refill as many times as they wish and take them wherever they want.

In the food and beverage experience
We eliminated single-use plastic packaging in our buffets, and now, we present products in bulk or in individual portions of reusable containers; In addition, we prefer the consumption of local and organic products which contribute to reducing the carbon footprint.

We use a minimal amount of straws, which are biodegradable, and we have reusable cups at pool bars. Our take-away packaging is manufactured from compostable materials.

We contribute to the promotion of the circular economy through the proper management of solid waste, mainly plastics, with the aim of reducing, reusing, and recycling these materials, so that the waste will serve as raw material for other production processes.

Together, the Living Coral Association and our resort Grand Park Royal Cozumel, aim to support the monitoring and maintenance of various coral species located on the island. In addition to this, we are committed to promote tourist services with trained divers who are responsible with the reefs.

In our Caribbean and Mexican Pacific hotels, we’ve protected over 6,000 sea turtles of different species, either by safeguarding their nests where they choose to lay eggs or by relocating the eggs to specially designed enclosures for this purpose.

Once the eggs hatch, our hotels or the competent authorities carry out the release of the sea turtles, a phenomenon that is worth admiring.

We've partnered with CRISTAL ®, a prestigious British company, to integrate their standards and protocols with Park Royal's own, covering five fundamental areas in our hotel operations. This ensures the safety of our guests and staff through regular audits.

We are part of a group of companies that, through the voluntary integration of social and environmental actions in our commercial operations, production processes and relations with stakeholders, aim to have a positive impact on society.

We comply with the Mexican standard NMX F605 NORMEX 2018, which makes us worthy of the ‘Distintivo H’ awarded by the SECTUR Ministry of Tourism to establishments that offer food to domestic and foreign tourists.
